A look back: DIRTY GIRL MUD RUN

A while back I posted about signing up for My First Mud Run!

Well the day has come and gone and I am here to let you know all the dirty little things that went down .

We left Orlando around 7pm to head to ATL. we had some health snacks packed and we were ready to hit the road.

We had to stay awake for the 6-7hour drive so we came up with creative ways to do so. Make fun of Carissa's music collection, in her defense she did tell us to bring CD's with us HAHA.

We finally hit the mother load when we discovered the best CD in the collection. Some may laugh and judge... I say it is a CLASSIC!!! This CD includes songs such as, BYE BYE BYE, It's gonna be me, or the car favorite... Digital Get Down... Yes that's right folks I am referring to the one and only N'Sync! LOL Hey it kept us up and made us laugh. What more could you ask for

With a short sleep and an interesting hotel breakfast it was time to head out for our day.

Our first stop was... drum roll please...

I have to say I am a little upset about this visit. This was my first time ever at a Trader Joes (there are none here in Orlando) and I LOVED IT! Great options, low prices... so why am I upset? I have found my love and I can not see him daily... makes me sad. We need one of these ASAP in Orlando
Shoes are laced up and we are ready to get going.

Carissa and I were really excited to meet up with fellow bloggers Maria, Victoria and Madeline.
They were incredibly sweet and I hope to hang out with them again when I am back in their neck of the woods this summer.

The race started and then came the obstacles.

We Climbed...

We Crawled...

 We Repelled...

We got Wet...(get your mind out of the gutter...)

This is probably my favorite series of pictures!

Best of all... we got dirty
Yep... Carissa totally tackled Kelsey, and Kelsey tried to take Alex with her haha

Left to Right: Kelsey, Maria, Kelly, Robin, Madeline, Carissa, Me, Alex

Ya we are pretty bad ass chicks...

After the race we rinsed off, got dressed and headed back to Orlando. It was a short visit but we had fun and got to meet some awesome fellow bloggers. There were a few things we discussed on our long trip home that we would have changed... but in the end, we had a good time, and raised money for a great cause.

Have you gotten dirty lately?

Ciao from the mud

Egg White Muffins

As you know I am all about prepping my food in advance. This makes eating clean a lot easier for me. The food is made, schedule is set and deviating because less likely.

This past week I had a lot going on in my crazy life and decided I wanted egg white omelets the next morning but knew with my workout/work schedule I didn't want to waste anytime in the morning cooking. So I decided to pre make my omelet... with a twist of course.

I bring you the Egg White, Turkey Bacon veggie Omelet muffin (see why I just titled it Egg White Muffins)

What You Need:

Turkey Bacon (optional)
Spinach
Onions
Peppers
Goat Cheese
2 Whole Eggs
6 eggwhites

What you do:
Spray your muffin pan with Pam or anything else to make it not stick.

Cut one piece of bacon in half and line the muffin pan

Place desired amount of spinach on top of bacon and place goat cheese (or cheese of choice) on top
Spoon in Egg and veggie mixture
Bake on 350 for 10-15 min
The next day I threw a few in my toaster oven set to warm and heated them up while I prepared my lunch.
**If you plan on using the microwave to heat them, do not pre cook them all the way. They will become rubbery.**

Brian and I ate them with a banana and enjoyed every bite. I will definitely be making these again. Also once you understand how to make these it is super easy to sub out anything you prefer in your eggs!

Ciao & eggs made simple

What is the 30 day challenge?
I have put together 1-2 exercises a day to add to your already existing workout to help push yourself just a bit further. There will be a new exercise, or sets of exercises everyday for 30days and will gradually become more challenging. You will not need any equipment, you will just need you and a small space to work.

You can add the exercises onto your workout you have scheduled, wake up and do them before you get ready for your day, complete them after your day, or break it up throughout the day. Anyway you choose to participate is up to you! I hope you join me along the journey!

Ok now on to the even better news. I received an amazing package from the great people over at Peeled Snacks.

Peeled Snacks is dedicated to bringing their consumers fruit from organic and sustainable farms to ensure that their products are good for you and good for the environment! I don't know about you but that alone makes me love this company.

Another reason I am a huge fan of Peeled Snacks is because of the work they do with the community. Peeled Snacks recently partnered with the American Diabetes Association to help families make better decisions when it comes to the food they consume.

Dried fruit is a sweet tooth savior for me. Instead of grabbing unhealthy, empty calorie filled sweets I reach of a bag of Peeled Snacks and I am satisfied. Peeled Snacks list of ingredients is very minimal... so minimal that it only includes fruit...no added sugar, no ingredients that I can't pronounce just good ol' fashioned fruit!

What's even better (ya who knew it could get even better) Peeled Snacks is now available at Starbucks

Why I Love HIIT! (high intensity interval training)

No Sleep... Check
Rough Morning... Check
Shitty Day... Check
Lack of Energy... Check
Laces tied up... Check.. wait what!?

Today was a day from hell and by the time I got home I did not want to do anything, by anything I mean wanted to sit my ass on the couch, eat snacks and sleep. However I knew by the time 8pm hit I would hate myself for lack of movement and motivation.

Enter HIIT run here!

What is HIIT you may ask... well lucky for you I know how to use Wikipedia very well and I am able to answer this question... BAHAHA j/k

Enter Science Lesson Here:

High Intensity Interval Training AKA HIIT- an exercise that alternates periods of short INTENSE anaerobic exercise with less-intense recovery periods. HIIT can lasts anywhere from 10-25 minutes. HIIT provides athletic conditioning, and improved fat burning along with glucose metabolism.

So after a few min. of being a baby and having a snack I decided to lace up my tennis shoes and hit the pavement. I choose different landmarks around the neighborhood to gauge my High Intense  moments, and my rests and I got it done. Sprints followed by short recovery periods.

So what makes me love this type of workout? Easy! It's short, it's effective and now I will not hate myself by 8pm tonight. With the sprints followed by brief recovery periods I actually ended up going further then I had originally planned. Although it wasn't a crazy intense workout I feel much better and my stress has been decreased just a tad.

So next time you feel like crap or you are short on time. HIIT it up and feel much better

Ciao and an HIIT RUN,

Alexis

Full Body Quick Set...

YES PLEASE!

Holy jello arms. I just killed the gym and I am loving it... my arms on the other hand... they are not to fond at the moment.

I wanted to lift and I wanted to get in a great workout but I did not want to be there all night. I had already run this morning and done some Tabata/HIIT type exercises this morning so this was officially workout numero due!

I am not going to bore you with my entire workout... just the first set :o) It was going to be my warm up but ended up killing me from the beginning, and trust me I am not complaining.

All you need is:
and possibly a towel because you will be sweating from the get go!

So get ready to use your arms, legs, arms, back, hair.... well maybe not the last but you will be working your whole body.

I use the bosu blue side down. Its a bit more challenging and works best for what I like. Feel free to make yourself comfortable

**you can omit the Bosu if you are not comfortable but you will not work your core as much**
Do not rest between exercises. Go right from squats to dead lifts to pushups. Rest 30sec between set Max rest time 45sec. The lack of rest is what is going to make your muscles hate you while you are working but love you in the end! :o)

This was not my entire workout but it can be if you are tight on time.

Ciao and Jello Arms

Carrot Raisin Protein Pancakes

Its that time again... WHAT I ATE WEDNESDAY TIME that is!
I have been pretty much a failure when it comes to documenting my eats this week but I did come up with an awesome recipe just for you! Well really it was for Brian and me but those are just particulars we do not need to bicker over :o)

So my .....

Brings you a supper yummy, super, easy, super healthy clean eating recipe. (It's even Pinable!)

A new and improved (well let's be serious you can't improve perfect tehe) protein pancake. While prepping breakfast I asked Brian what "flavor" protein pancake he wanted. I spewed off a ton of combos just to be annoying  informative. Finally he yells out CARROT RAISIN. So I tried it... and this morning it was pretty successful.

I used my normal Protein Pancake Recipe and made a few alterations.

What you need
 4 carrots
1/2 cup raisins
6 egg whites
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup oatmeal
1-2 scoops protein powder
1tsp Vanilla
splash of almond milk

I used my food processor to shred the carrots and then mix everything together. ( I failed on the prep pictures...)

After carrots are shredded and all other ingredients and mix well. These turned out a lot sweeter then we are used to so we ended up eating them plain and enjoyed every min. of it :o)

Look at those pretty carrots in that pancake!

Ciao and Yummy Carrots
