In case you didn't know

I am a pretty big deal! At least at the moment I am in my head. A few weeks ago I alluded to some big news, I however did not want to jinx it so I kept quiet. Well the time has come to reveal my secret... {enter drum roll here}

About a month ago I was approached by the owners of a Business Webpage about writing an article geared towards healthy eating while traveling. Since they cater to the business traveler I had to think about what I could write that would be easy for those constantly on the go. You can check out the actual article on the webpage here.  Here is a snippet of the actual article I wrote for the great folks over at Expert Business Advice.

Fit on the Fly

A quick and easy-to-follow guide to staying fit while on the road for business. Staying fit while traveling is easier than you think!
LET’S FACE IT, traveling can be stressful.  Packing, double- and triple-checking flight times, asking yourself a million times, “what did I forget?”  In the midst of the craziness we often neglect nourishing our bodies with good, clean food and opt for something fast and unhealthy.  Eating healthy on-the-go is possible and I am going to show you the simple steps to “Fit-Possible” eating while traveling.

No more excuses!

Check out the rest of my article... PLEASE! haha

So on with the food portion of this little blog of mine. Today I am sad... it is the last day of Veggie Feb. on WIAW but I am supper stoked about the Going Green that will be starting in March. Thank you again to the wonderful Jen for hosting WIAW.

Peas and Crayons

Let the good times roll...

Oh I do have another brag before I get started HAHA. Not really but hey it is my blog and I do what I want. So Monday I was supposed to go for a nice run but the forecast here in crappy Orlando was 70% chance of rain. It drizzled a little and got pretty dark around my house. I did not feel like getting stuck on a 5 mile run in the pouring rain so I decided to hit up a different cardio workout.

By the time I was done I was not impressed with what I had done... I was more impressed with the amount of "boob sweat" it had created... and yes i said boob sweat... don't act like you don't know what I am talking about.

I was more impressed with the boob sweat because of the obvious lack of actual chest I have to create this so called sweat HAHA. OK I am done sharing that... I was amused, that's really what counts.. right?

Today marks my WIAWv22 and it is just as much fun as it was on v1. Since we are wrapping up the veggified (ya not a real word) I am dropping off my favorite meals, that are veggie based of course, from the month.

Chicken Burger Pockets with roasted red peppers a mixed green salad. Served with a side of green bean "fries"

Salmon and egg whites with raw red onion, spinach and tomato.
Chickpeas, tomatoes, spinach and red onion.

Homemade Veggie Soup

Cauliflower pasta. Yes those wonderful, scrumptious white spots are not cheese... they are grated cauliflower and this was Delicious!

This is one of my favorites EVER! I have blogged about it quite a bit. Roasted squash and tomatoes and onions with goat cheese. This picture shows the perfect little bite.

Sweet potato protein pancakes topped with my homemade chia jam.

Spaghetti squash with a veggie pomodoro sauce.

I think I have covered all my favorites of the month. I hope you enjoyed my recap :o)

Ciao and veggie stuffed

February Foodie Pen Pals

So another month has flown by, and another package has arrived at my doorstep. They little package that brings joy, excitement, curiosity and impatience. That package is none other than the monthly package of joy filled with yummy goodies sent from places unknown thanks to the wonderful Lindsay.

For a look back at all my past wonderful packages... October, November, December, January

This month I received my package from Kasey over at Powercakes. Kasey is super into fitness and clean eating, this is how I know we will get along lol. She is also studying to become a teacher which is another thing we have in common. Although if you recall January's pen pal was from my hometown, which made me a giddy little kid lol. Well Kasey is from the very town in which my mother attended college. Crazy small world. Anywho, let me get on with the post....

Kasey sent a package that would make any chocolate lover quiver in excitement... Unfortunatly I am not one of those lovers of chocolate I have mentioned so my mother; who could eat a chocolate bar, covered in chocolate icecream topped with chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles will be receiving a whole lot of goodies VIA Kasey LOL

My package consisted of a giant bag of teas, which I broke into right away. I am loving the coconut mango! I will have to find that brand at the store. Once I have finished this bag and the 3 boxes of tea I bought recently that is LOL.

I am a coffee drinker (love the taste) but over the past year I have begun to love tea as well. I enjoy tea at night (decaf of course) with a little honey and a nice pair of sweets. It is relaxing to sip on a hot cup of goodness while relaxing. I will be loving this gift for a while :o)

Next up come the food goodies. Kasey sent me two barre bars which was created by two dancers as an alternative to other nutrition/protein bars on the market. A Dagoba chocolate bar. Coffee and a Vega smoothiw

I tried the Cinnamon pecan Barre bar and was very impressed. The texture reminded me of a lara bar and the taste was pretty spot on. The bar tasted fresh and natural which I am all about. Food should be enjoyed not altered and I feel like the makers of barre did a very good job keeping the integrate of all their natural ingredients.

The Vega smoothie looks like it is right up my alley. I will have to search out where I can find them around Orlando so I can try another flavor. As for the Choc-a-Lot version my mother will be trying it out and giving me her own disclaimer. :o)

Brian tasted the Dagoba bar and was a fan. I tried a little bite of his and I just can't do the chocolate LOL. However, Brian gives it a big thumbs up. He is a huge dark chocolate fan and didn't stop at just one piece.

The last one I can not wait to try. As I stated above I love coffee! I used to drink a lot of flavored coffee when I first started drinking coffee and have since just stuck to good 'ol STRONG coffee LOL. However this coffee sounds super delish and I can not wait to sit down with a cup on the weekend. (Just have to wait till I use up my bag that is already open)

I am very grateful for my box, along with Brian and my mother :o) I know I am odd, and really the only person I know (aside from my sister) who doesn't like chocolate. But HEY it will be enjoyed by others and that is all that matters. A big THANK YOU goes out to Kasey for my wonderful box. GO check her out at Powercakes.

Working out while sick

"I can't work out I am sick..." I have heard that a lot lately (even more since I work in a school) I however am a firm believer that you can in fact work out while sick, within reason.

I am one of those people tonight. I woke up with a massive headache and a crazy sore throat. I have downed 96oz of water already and decided to do some calisthenics instead of my scheduled run.

I have always been a firm believer that you can work out while sick, just stick to Anaerobic exercise instead of Aerobic. That means hit the weights not the road.

I recently was reading articles to see if my "theory" held any water. While researching I came across an article published by CNN that talked about the  "neck rule". I found this rule extremely interesting since it described my "sickness" perfectly. The article stated that if your symptoms are all located above your neck (hence the neck rule) you most likely have a head cold and you can workout. If you have a fever or chest congestion you may be getting the flu and you should rest.

Now I will offer up a free pass to anyone who is suffering flu like symptoms but having the sniffles is no excuse to sit on your booty all night and reach for the remote instead of the weights.

In general, those who exercise on a regular basis tend to get sick less often than those who are more sedentary. Regular exercise can contribute to less colds, or less days spent sniffling and coughing if you do catch a cold.  However, even those of us who work out, eat properly, and hydrate our bodies properly are subject to a cold every once in a while.

I will wrap up by saying this; use your head...listen to your body! If you are just feeling a bit under the weather you can push yourself, it may even help cut down on the amount of tissues found in your trash can.

Do you work out while sick?

Ciao with a sore throat,

Alexis
